A week in Morocco can feel completely different depending on the route you choose. This Morocco 7 day itinerary leaves Marrakech, crosses the High Atlas and continues far beyond the usual Merzouga overnight stop, taking you through dunes, oasis villages, remote desert tracks and the Draa Valley before returning to Marrakech.
The first part follows the mountain road toward Ait Ben Haddou, the Valley of Roses and Dades. From there, the landscape becomes increasingly dry as you pass Todra Gorge and continue toward the Sahara.
Merzouga receives more than a quick visit. You have time to explore the surroundings of Erg Chebbi, visit Khamlia when local musicians are available, see different desert landscapes and join a camel ride before reaching the camp for the night.
The route then goes deeper into southeastern Morocco. Instead of returning directly toward Marrakech, you travel through Taouz and desert tracks toward Ouzina, Ramlia and Tafraoute Sidi Ali. These quieter areas give this 7 day itinerary Morocco a different character from shorter desert tours.
The final days reconnect with the Draa Valley through Zagora, Agdz and Tamnougalt before reaching Ouarzazate. On the last day, the journey follows the Ounila Valley toward Telouet and crosses the High Atlas once again before arriving in Marrakech.
This Marrakech itinerary 7 days works especially well for travelers who want the Sahara to be more than a single night. The journey combines famous places with long stretches of desert where the road itself becomes part of the experience.
We meet you at Marrakech Menara Airport or another agreed accessible pickup point and transfer you to your riad or hotel. If your flight arrives early enough, you can spend part of the day walking through Marrakech or simply relax after your journey. If you arrive later, the city can be enjoyed again when the desert route returns to Marrakech on day seven. Overnight in Marrakech.
After breakfast, leave Marrakech and begin the High Atlas crossing via the Tizi n'Tichka road. The route climbs through mountain landscapes and traditional villages, with panoramic stops when conditions allow. Continue toward Ait Ben Haddou and walk through the historic ksar before travelling through the Ouarzazate region. The afternoon continues through the Valley of Roses toward Boumalne Dades. As the light changes, the ochre cliffs and old kasbah landscapes become more dramatic. Dinner and overnight in the Dades Valley.
Leave Dades after breakfast and travel toward Tinghir and Todra Gorge. Step out of the vehicle and walk beside the river beneath the high canyon walls before continuing east through the villages of southeastern Morocco. Pass through Tinjdad and Erfoud as the scenery becomes increasingly dry. By late afternoon, reach Merzouga and see the Erg Chebbi dunes rising from the desert plain. Settle into your hotel or riad near the dunes and enjoy the evening at a slower pace.
Today is devoted to the Merzouga region. Travel by 4x4 around Erg Chebbi and explore desert landscapes that cannot be reached on the main road. Depending on local conditions, the day can include areas traditionally used by nomadic families and stops where you can learn more about life in this dry environment. Continue to Khamlia, a village known for Gnawa musical traditions, and listen to local musicians when performances are available. Later in the afternoon, meet the camel team and ride across part of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Stop on the sand when timing and weather allow, then continue to the desert camp. Enjoy dinner and traditional music when available before spending the night beside the dunes.
After breakfast, leave Merzouga and begin one of the most distinctive days of this Morocco travel itinerary. The journey moves toward Taouz and follows off-road desert tracks associated with old rally routes through southeastern Morocco. Stop at panoramic viewpoints where the landscape opens into long empty plains, rocky plateaus and distant dunes. Continue toward Ouzina, a small desert settlement near the Algerian border region, before travelling through Ramlia. After lunch, continue toward Tafraoute Sidi Ali, known for its remote desert setting and mining history. Dinner and overnight in a local guesthouse or desert lodge.
Leave Tafraoute Sidi Ali after breakfast and cross the desert landscapes toward Zagora. After a lunch break, continue north toward Agdz and the Draa Valley. Long palm groves appear again along the valley as the route reaches Tamnougalt. When access and timing allow, stop near the historic kasbah and enjoy views toward Jbel Kissane. Continue toward Ouarzazate in the afternoon and settle into your hotel or riad for the night.
After breakfast, begin the final day in Ouarzazate. An optional visit to Atlas Studios can be arranged depending on your interests and opening hours. From Ouarzazate, follow the road toward the Ounila Valley, where villages and earth-colored landscapes accompany the journey toward Telouet. Visit the area around Telouet Kasbah when access allows, then climb once more into the High Atlas. Cross the Tizi n'Tichka route and descend toward Marrakech. Arrival is usually in the late afternoon or evening depending on traffic and the time spent at stops.
This Morocco 7 day itinerary gives the Sahara enough time to feel like a real part of the journey rather than a single overnight stop. You cross the High Atlas, Dades and Todra before spending two days around Merzouga and Erg Chebbi. The route then goes deeper into southeastern Morocco through Ouzina, Ramlia and Tafraoute Sidi Ali before returning through the Draa Valley, Ouarzazate and Telouet. The landscapes change almost every day, from mountain passes and kasbahs to giant dunes, rocky desert tracks and palm-filled valleys.
